JoAnn Doyle of Sandy Springs, passed away on June 20, 2017, after a long & courageous battle with breast cancer. Born August 2 1937, in Muncie, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Ralph and Lucy Farris Heidenreich. She attended St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School and Central Catholic High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. and the University of Florida where she was a varsity cheerleader for 3 years, member of Delta Gamma sorority and Queen of Smiles. Studying abroad at University of Montpellier, France, she developed a love for wine, brie & the French baguette. She moved to New York City where she began working for Pan Am Airlines as a stewardess. In 1960, while in NYC, she met & married the love of her life, George Doyle. Together, they had four beautiful & brilliant children and settled comfortably in Upper Saddle River, NJ where they made lifelong friendships. In 1974, they relocated to Dunwoody, GA, where she and George raised their family, attending hundreds of events at Murphey Candler, Dunwoody High School, and Marist. She was always there for her family. Having raised her children to adulthood, Jo Ann embarked on the second stage of her life, helping those in need. In her 40s, she returned to school, earned her RN, and worked for several years at Peachford Hospital. Later, she joined Northside Hospice brining comfort to hundreds of families. In 1987, she went back to school and completed her Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State. After retiring, she continued her lifelong passion of helping others. She joined Northside Hospital Auxiliary where she was active in Camp Hope, puppeteers and served as Auxiliary President. She also volunteered at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception AIDs Mission and provided companionship to inmates on Death Row. She and George were married 56 glorious years. Her later years were spent with “G”, traveling the world, enjoying her grandchildren, and spending time with her many friends. Jo Ann and G travelled frequently to Europe, including many trips to her adopted homeland, Ireland. They visited exotic locales like Israel and Egypt, and traveled the United States extensively. She was a woman of strong Catholic faith and was very active at St. Jude Catholic Church and All Saints Catholic Church, where she served on the Bereavement & Prison ministries, Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, and Sunday school teacher. She was recognized as the 2003 Women of the Year at All Saints. She instilled in her children her sense of spirit, whisking them on mystery rides & camping trips, indulging them with her gourmet cooking and her infamous cold cucumber soup. Her zest for life was contagious and friendships were for life. She frequently misbehaved with the Old Broads, Flamingos and MGs. With a quick sense of humor and joke for every occasion, she was the first to arrive at a party and the last to leave. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved pets Pussy Willow, Daisy & Bear. She is survived by her husband and children, Lynn Hicks, Ellen Whitley (Chris), Susan Summers (George), Chris Doyle (Mary), her grandchildren Carrie Hicks, Jeanne & Jack Whitley, Taylor & Ryan Pahl, Riley, Ben & Aidan Doyle, her siblings Bob Heidenreich & Kathy Barkelew and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews. The family is eternally grateful to her caregivers, including Dr. Bowen’s team at Georgia Cancer Specialists, Long Leaf Hospice, and our angel Lorrie. A celebration of her life, mass and reception will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, Sandy Springs on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Jude Chapter, 7171 Glenridge Drive, Sandy Springs GA 30328.
