    OBITUARY:
    William C. Larson, age 90, died on Sept. 23, 2017. There will be a Memorial Service at Our Lady of the Assumption Church 1350 Hearst Drive in Atlanta on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 316 Ivy Street, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30303; or Bristol Hospice at 2849 Paces Ferry Road SE, Suite 380, Atlanta, GA 30339. Bill was born on Aug. 10, 1927 in Canton, China, and spoke fluent Cantonese as a child. He was a Japanese POW in Hong Kong from January till June 1942. He graduated from Waupaca High School, Wisconsin in June 1944. He served 33 months in the US Army and was honorably discharged in August 1947. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in Civil Engineering in June 1950 and worked for J.H. Findorff Construction Co. in Madison, Wisconsin until he went overseas in 1961 to work for the US Navy and the State Departmentís Agency for International Development until he retired in September, 1980. While working in Indonesia for four years he learned to speak fluent Indonesian. During this period he attended Vanderbilt University and earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management. After retirement from AID in 1980 he worked for Georgia Tech until 1990 and for Clark Atlanta University until August 1996. He was a long-time member of the Berkeley Hills Country Club in Norcross. One of his hobbies was writing simple poetry about his family and some of their events. He volunteered as a Northside Hospital Auxilian and as a St. Vincent de Paul case worker for many years. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond M. Larson and Charles M. Larson, Jr. and his loving wife, Nancy A. Larson. He is survived by his six children: Michael J. Larson (Sue), Patricia J. Smith (Deke), JoAnne Persinger (Rick), Thomas W. Larson (Esther), Carolyn A. MacDonell (Michael), and Scott R. Larson (Corinne) and their spouses and 14 grandchildren: Christopher, Melissa, Sandy, Megan, Scott, Jason, Kevin, Ashley, Erica, Brett, Brian, Victoria, Margaret and Katherine and eight great-grandchildren: Riley, Wyatt, Mason, Austin, Ethan, Nathan, Bryce, and Ella.
